Seize the day because life is what you make it...

Life lately....

It's been way too hot here in NYC! From enjoying a few days of Spring the weather literally jumped to Summer. When I say hot I mean humid, yuck, with humidity comes a lot of stickiness and we really don't go together. The only good thing is that I get to enjoy raspados (which means snow cones)

The night before the last day of school!
Where did this school year go?!? It went by way too fast!
But with Summer comes 2 months of enjoying my munchkin, and I'm so excited.
This will be an epic Summer!!

Rocking out to this song and singing it out loud, as loudly as my voice allows it that is :)

#HuggiesLatino Playdate :)

Disclosure: This is part of a compensated campaign with Latina Mom Bloggers and Huggies. However all opinios expressed are my own.

June 11, 2013
Last Tuesday we had the opportunity to go an awesome Huggies event. One of the main reasons that it was great was that I got to bring my family. My mom, sister, my niece and my munchkin. It was a fun family oriented event.

There were drinks and snacks that we could enjoy while getting to meet other latina bloggers and while the kids got to play around in the play area.

We got to meet former Miss Universe 2006 Zuleyka Rivera who is the new spokesperson for Huggies, aside from getting to see her and her cute son in person, we also got an exclusive peak at the new parenting webisodes featuring Zuleyka and her son. Here we got to see how she trust Huggies and with her busy lifestyle they make for an excellent companion. You can watch the webisodes on the Huggies Latino Facebook page and new ones will be uploaded each month. They are so cute and the parenting tips are great. Even before I went to this event my heart belonged to Huggies. I grew up wearing them and so did my son. I loved that we got to try some of their new line Snug and Dry, they help keep your little one dry for 12 hours!
We were given some to take home and my niece loves them!

Once my niece woke up she had a blast with her red balloon :)
I tried to take a picture of munchkin but he was too busy eating!

I mean look at those yummy treats!! Cheesecake in a jar, strawberries and churros. Oh my!

It was a fun family event and I'm so thankful for the invitation! Thank you Latina Mom Bloggers & Huggies for a great evening :)

Oakley Mini 10K Recap

Race lineup! Waiting for the race to begin.
I did it!! Saturday morning was spent running the city streets of NY and Central Park.
I got up at 6:30am and got ready to walk to 59th street. That's where the Start line was at. The race would start at 8am so I had plenty of time to walk and warm up.
It was cloudy but the sun gods were shining down on us through a little pinhole, which was a miracle since it was pouring the day before.
There was a little breeze in the air that made me believe that it would be nice and breezy during the 6 miles.
Boy, was I wrong! By mile 3 I felt so out of it, it was so humid, hot & sunny.
We ran from 59th street to 90th street, from there we went into Central Park to finish the race. I felt good even though I hadn't run for 2 months, my legs really started feeling it on mile 4, and all I could keep thinking was "You got this", "Your almost there", "Your stronger than you think you are", it helped me get through those painful miles! I'm 99.9% sure that I am not smiling in any of my race pictures - ha! It was a hard run.

Than the best thing ever happened, I saw the 5 Mile sign and I knew this race was in the bag, it was also great to have had "This Girl Is On Fire" come on while I was running past this sign. This song always gets to me, whenever my munchkin and I are together and this song comes on he goes "mommy, your song! Your on fire :)"
That last mile was a good one in which I freed my mind of worries that have been going on right now, it was a motivating and emotional one. And when I saw that Finish Line I was the happiest girl ever.
Once I crossed the finish line, I almost threw up. I had to move to the side and hold my knees until the feeling went away, I than proceeded to walk towards my medal :)
This race was special for so many reasons it was my first race ever many years ago (more info here)  and this time I got to run it by myself. Even though I missed my mom, it felt great to relive the memories as I ran through Central Park. Oh and there was no crying or whining this time. Well maybe a tear or two but out of happiness.

#IGotThis #ThisGirlIsOnFire
Another great race for this 2013, now to get ready for my 5Mile race coming up on June 30th.
The Achilles Hope & Possibility 5M - This one is a special one. I get to run with my daddy!

Can't wait for 2014 Mini 10K!

#AD Designer Whey Review

With so many protein powders, shake and bars out there it's always hard to pick out one that's right. That's why when I was given the chance to try out some Designer Whey products through FitFluential I was very excited.
Happy Mail Day
It was a very exciting mail day when this box of goodies was opened. The box contained Designer Whey bars, protein powder, protein 2GO drink mix, and protein shakes.
The first thing I did was hide the bars - ha! Seriously, if they were left out in the open my husband or munchkin would have eaten them in a second! It's happened before, and when I saw the flavors that I was sent - Triple chocolate crunch, Chocolate caramel crunch and Peanut butter crunch. I knew that couldn't happen, so into my secret drawer they went.

Second thing to do was open up the powder containers and take a quick whiff. Yes, a whiff. If upon smelling it I can smell other things aside from the flavor it says. That's it for me, big no-no.
I was not disappointed and so over the moon when I smelled the french vanilla and all I smelled was the french vanilla, and when I smelled the white chocolate it smelled like white chocolate. That was a big plus for me. Not only that but all of Designer Whey products are 97% lactose free and they also contain no gluten!! Yep, that makes for a very happy belly and girl! Oh and they are kid friendly and kid approved :)

Tropical Orange Protein 2GO
As I trained for my 10K, I made sure to load my water bottle with some designer whey protein 2GO. Some days it was tropical orange, other days it was mixed berry. I also received some samples of the lemonade flavor but that one went to my dad. He used it while at the gym.
The flavor is very light but not bad with water, for some people it might be a little bland and in that case you can always mix it with some juice. I mixed the tropical orange with some orange juice and the double dose of flavor was good. I can be a bad eater sometimes and I really felt good after drinking some protein 2GO. Not only was it easy on my stomach but there was also no sugar overload.

Protein powder + yogurt = heaven
Now this combo right here was perfect for my munchkin after he came out from the hospital and losing 7lbs. It was so hard to find something that he could eat and really get some nutrients as his body went back to normal. So yogurt and protein powder it was.  He eat this everyday, once a day. We would combine the french vanilla with all kinds of flavored yogurts and munchkin really enjoyed it. Plus it helped with his protein intake! The white chocolate one went to husband and I, husband mixed his half with water and I mixed my half with strawberries, banana and some coconut milk. To make one awesome shake. Munchkin also enjoys. Yes, enjoys! After reviewing these products we went to our nearest GNC and restocked, oh and we also did this before our supply of samples were done. Yep!

Peanut Butter Crunch bar
Now, the bars were the hardest thing to part with. Not only because of the flavor but also because our local GNC doesn't carry them so we had to order these online. It was very hard waiting for them to arrive. All three flavors were a big hit in our house and these were also approved by munchkin.
We had to cut the bars in three equal parts that we could enjoy them together!

The protein shakes, were good because they already come prepared and you can just throw them in your gym bag or purse. They are really handy and the flavor is not to bad, it might be an acquired taste but you get used to it. Especially if you know it's good for you.

So, if you haven't tried Designer Whey you really should, not because I say so but because munchkin thinks you should and he really recommends them. Plus they have an array of products for whatever your little heart desires, whether your a bar girl, powder girl or shake kind of a girl.
You can read more information on there website here

Have you tried any protein supplements before? If yes, which ones?

Kary xoxo

#IWILL Ready Or Not?!

So, tomorrow is my 10K, the Oakley Mini 10K to be specific.
Say what, oh my gosh!! I've been very quiet about it for many reasons.
I wasn't sure that I'd do it and because it's been 2 months since I've done a proper run. Many things have happened, some you guys know about, others I hope I can share with you guys soon :)

In the meantime I've convinced myself that I got this! I mean I did do a half marathon with the flu! I know this is really different because I haven't run at all, but my plan is to walk when I have to and to take it easy.

I got this! I will!!

P.S. I'm super nervous!

Love,
Kary xoxo

To Phildelphia we shall go...

Tomorrow is munchkins school trip to Philadelphia. He, well we get to see the liberty bell. This will be my second time. The first time I was there, I was also munchkins age and it was also a school trip from the same school :)

I'm lucky to be able to go as a chaperone! We leave at 7:30am, so this girl needs to be sleeping already. My alarm will be going off at 5:00am, so that I can get our breakfast ready and make sure we have everything. I will try to take lots of pictures, except one of the rules as a chaperone is that we must be focused on our group of kids at all times. I will be in charge of 5 kids, including my munchkin.
I'm excited!

Wishes of safe travels and a fun trip, please!

Love,
Kary xoxo
